Making People Healthy

It's not just about Prevention it is about Protection

Prevention has been a big buzz word in the Wellness Industry.  There is even a magazine with the name.  Well, I found a new great word I have been using with my clients. I recently heard a Family Pracitce Physician speak and she gave a powerful lecture on how she is educating her patients on a new perspective...PROCTECTION.  It really rang home for me to.  The foods we eat, the products we use, the steps we take, should all be centered on protecting our boides.  When I changed my mental frame of reference on protecting my body it seemed like I was the one in control.  Prevention seems like we are playing defense and seems more  subdue.  Protection gives me more of the notion that we are on the offense and are the one in charge of our bodies.  We are strong and have the power to protect ourselves against disease and aging.   Let's face it from womb to tomb, there are things that attack our bodies with every breath we take.

We have 20 Trillion cells in our bodies and every day each cell takes about 10,000 hits from free radicals (those destructive little gubbers that cause our cells to become damaged or die).  Free radicals are a biproduct of good things like exercise and eating as well as bad things like pollutants we breath, toxins we ingest,  Antioxidants offer our cells the protection they need to help fight off those free radicals.  If there are not enough antioxidants in our bodies to bond and neutralize the free radicals they go after our cells and damage them.  Antioxidants come from eating fruits and vegetables.  So one of the best things we can do to protect our bodies is eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables.  And remember the RDA for fruits and vegetables is 9 to 11 minimum for women. For children the RDA is between 5-9 depending on their age and gender.

So ladies, are you proctected?  Is your body prepared to fight disease and aging?  If not or you aren't sure maybe consider what more you can do.
