BRITAX BABY CARRIER (By Britaxusa.com)
As a big proponent of baby carriers and having tried my share throughout the course of having four babies in the past 5 years, I can now say that I finally know what to look for when trying on a new model. Comfort, back (especially lower back) support, ease of which it can be put on, secure straps, comfort for the baby, and versatility in carrying positions are all characteristics of the carriers that I end up keeping and using for the long haul.
When I was given the opportunity to try the Parent Approved Parent Tested Award winning Britax Baby Carrier I was excited because this was a brand new product from Britax who had up until this point focused on car seat systems and strollers.
I tried the baby carrier with my fourth baby while doing things around the house and taking walks. I was pleasantly surprised how unlike some other carriers, this one felt very kind to my lower back and shoulders especially after an hour or so of wear time. My baby too felt comfortable in the forward and rear facing positions because of the extra padding in the leg openings and I felt secure enough that I could move about freely without worrying about him slipping out or having his face or head be in a compromising position. My baby already was a bit older and had good control of his neck and head so I didn't need to use the infant insert. But if you have a newborn or a smaller baby, the insert is ideal for additional support.
What I liked about the carrier was the ease by which I could put it on, click the buckles and snaps with one hand (something that shouldn't be taken lightly...especially if you have other little ones around you occupying your other hand :)
The carrier can ideally be used up until about 32 pounds, but you will start to feel the weight the bigger the baby. I stopped using front carriers with all my kids at about 18 months except for my youngest who just turned one and I am still using front ones like the Britax with him when I go for walks. As the kids get older carrying them on your back may be something that you may want to explore too.
The price is comparable to other brands on the market of similar design. If you would like to learn more, visit the Britax USA website http://www.britaxusa.com/baby-carriers/baby-carrier.
