BABY CARRIER (By ERGObaby)
You'll notice this is the second kind of baby carrier we're reviewing as here at EmpoweredMommies.com we're all about education and options. The more choices you have and the better you understand them, the better decisions you can make :) Ultimately, it's up to you to learn more about each type of baby carrier and decide which one suits you and your baby best. We're hoping to show you all that is available :)
So this time round, my 10 month old and I tried the Ergo Baby Carrier in Cranberry color and we were thrilled!
Say the name Ergo and automatically every baby wearing mom will know what you're talking about and understand it stands for security, comfort and quality. ERGObaby is a family owned and operated company located on Maui, Hawaii and was born out of Karin Frost's personal need for a baby carrier when her baby boy was born in 2001.
With the help and feedback of many parents, Karin designed the ERGObaby carrier which has a unique design that makes wearing your baby comfortable for hours and allowing you to be active and hands-free.
The design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating stress on moms' spines and hips. And it is true to its promise. It feels very comfortable and I was able to chase after my other two kids (an active 3 1/2 yr old and 2 yr old) with no fear of dropping the baby or hurting my neck and back.
I tried wearing the classic sitting in the front position (see photo) and also used it on my hip and back as a baby backpack. All positions felt equally secure and confortable although I like the front carrying position best because I can see my baby. Surprisingly though, the back position was very confortable and practical. This was very useful during a recent trip to the grocery with all my three kids. The material is very soft on the baby and the straps are very secure. If you have a newborn or smaller baby, you can use an infant insert cushion that will support your baby's head and neck.
I also really appreciate that ERGObaby is very committed to educating and supporting babywearing moms through its online resources that promote education. As they put it, " It is our mission to educate parents about attachment parenting, babywearing, and related topics, to improve the way our next generations of babies are introduced into the world". And what a lovely mission that is!
ERGObaby carries a wide selection of colors, patterns as well as an Organic line so definitely check out their website for all this and more! The average retail price for a carrier is $105 which is more than your slings/pouch-like carriers. However, it is price competitive with other carriers like Baby Bjorn which tend to run around $100 as well.
You can also find ErgoBaby carriers at many retailers nationwide. Just do a search with your zip code on their site and you'll get a list of stores nearby that carry ErgoBaby products. They also have a Facebook Fan Page, so feel free to become a Fan there to stay up to date on products, sales, etc.
