MODMUM SLING CARRIER (by ModMum)
Sling baby carriers have been in the news lately given some of the recent recalls due to the unfortunate deaths of small infants that suffocated. In those cases fatal mistakes were made in how the baby was placed and positioned within the sling carrier. But don't let this news discourage you from considering using a sling carrier with your baby. These carriers when used correctly, following directions carefully and common sense can be a wonderful way for you to bond with your baby as you remain active around the house, go for a walk, shopping or even breasteed.
ModMum is one of the companies continuing to offer sling baby carriers. It all started with a ModMum Lisa who was looking for an alternative carrier that was hip and confortable in order to soothe her baby. She was kind enough to send me a sample sling carrier in black for me to try with my youngest baby while I traveled abroad earlier this month.
I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the sling and the secure yet lighweight feel of the material. The sizing chart was right on and my sling fit really well! Since my youngest baby is close to 25 lbs I mainly used the hip carrier position while walking leisurely around the hotel and taking care of my other two kids.
ModMum is very passionate about making sure that new moms especially understand how to wear their baby and are aware of the potential risks if the baby is not positioned properly or secured correctly. Their website offers detailed, step by step instructions on how to carry your baby in three basic positions: cradle for 0-9 months, front carry for 2-8 months and hip carry for 6 months + (up to 35 lbs). Trying to carry a baby heavier than 35lbs is not recommended and could hurt your neck and back considerably.
The carriers are affordable at around $30 depending on the fabric design and size. For more information about ModMum baby sling carriers, visit their site at ModMum.
