SWADDLING BLANKETS (by Grandma's Biggie Blankets)

The first thing I noticed about these blankets is how much bigger they are than the standard swaddling blankets that are out there. The standard receiving blanket is about 30" x 30", but these are 42" x 54" which can make a big difference especially when you're a new mom learning to swaddle your baby for the first time. And this may have been what inspired the creators, two real grandmas who created a blanket for their first grandson in 2007. Read more on their story here.

According to experts, swaddling is very important especially during the first few months of life when the baby is still getting used to being outside the womb.

Swadding has been proven to be an effective way to soothe and calm your newborn and help him/her sleep and there have even been studies indicating that this practice can reduce the incidence of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

I remember struggling with some of the hospital blankets especially because they always seemed to come undone so easily when the baby moved or started crying. They didn't seem big or long enough. So I was pleasantly surprised when I tried swadding my nearly 20lb 9 month old and these did just fine. I also gave one of them to my friend who has a 2 month old and she liked it too. Her little boy was able to stay wrapped comfortably and longer than with some of the other blankets she had.

The blankets are available in 100% cotton seersucker, printed cotton flannel, and luxury heavyweight yarn dyed cotton flannel in different colors and prints. I tried the Blue Check and Dreamy Pink Flowers. You can see the entire gallery here. They sell for $29.95 and can be purchased online through SimplyBabyBlankets.com.
