 NURSING TOP (By MotherWear)

As many moms do, I struggle with nursing my baby in public because of fear of exposing myself in a way that someone may find offensive. We've heard stories of women being asked to leave restaurants or other public venues because fellow patrons did not approve of seeing their breasts (even while feeding a baby). And while I feel very passionate about this issue (that every woman has a right to breastfeed in public), I am still cognizant that is not openly accepted everywhere and we must adjust to that when possible.

And it's not only about exposure, but also confort! Remember being in the hospital and wanting to breastfeed but feeling cold when exposing your belly or breast or ditto during those midnight feedings?

Well, a good solution to some of these challenges are nursing tops. Most recently I had the opportunity to try one from a company called Motherwear. I really like this company because they're very actively involved in supporting breastfeeding and they have been for more than 25 years. They also provide online breastfeeding educational materials that are very useful for new moms and even sponsor a blog on breastfeeding.

This nursing top from Motherwear is made of cotton, has long-sleeves and features a double layer system where you can safely tuck in your baby for feeding through an opening on your inner layer without having to worry or stress over breastfeeding in public.

The 2 layer design makes it look like you're wearing two t-shirts. Since it's made of cotton it can easily be machine washed and dried. I wore it for a few days, then washed it in warm water, and noticed that it retained its shape and form well. It fit a little snugger after that first wash, but the package where the top came made note of that. That they are a bit oversized to adjust to washing shrinkage.

It comes in various sizes from small to 3x and you can get it in a bunch of colors. My favorite is the clear blue with the gray underlayer (being in a Tarheel state couldn't refuse the Carolina Blue).
You can also get it in Chili Pepper w/eggplant underlayer, Grass w/heather gray underlayer,  or Peacock w/heather grey underlayer.

Unlike many nursing tops in the market, this one is priced fairly at $30. If you buy more than one you get a bit of a discount. You don't feel like you're paying a premium on it just because it is maternity wear. And you can even wear it after you're done nursing because it's very confortable and cozy.

When my husband saw me wearing it he didn't realize it was a maternity top. It looks like a trendy casual top you would wear for a walk, to the gym or the park and it's very confortable.

So if you're looking into some ideas for breatfeeding-supportive wear, definitely check out their website and order a free catalog to learn more about some of the other products they offer.
